A Library Trip Timed Well...

Last week my friend and I took our kids to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation Library and I found it to be a well timed trip in the lives of my children.  At nine and eleven years old, I found them to be very interested in most of what we learned there.  My son was truly excited to see and walk through Air Force One at the Air Force One Pavilion.

While my daughter seemed to enjoy the new Guide Cam Tour capability that provides a high tech more engaging side to the library.  The hand held device allows you to stroll through at your leisure rather than take a personal guided tour with a docent.  It also has picture/video capabilities and all of what you take will be sent to your email.

Of course she also love seeing the beautiful display of clothes from our former first lady.

I enjoyed watching my children explore this wonderful library and I also learned a few things that I had not known before my visit.  For instance, the Secret Service Division was created in 1865 to suppress counterfeit currency not for protection of the president. In 1901 Congress informally requested Secret Service Presidential protection following the assassination of President William McKinley.
The Secret Service assumed full-time responsibility for protection of the President in 1902.

There are a couple choices for dinning while at the Library.  We ate our lunch at the Reagan Pub that is located about an hour within the tour at the Air Force One Pavilion.  The sandwiches were fantastic.  Due to the location of the pub, it is required to pay admission to the library in order to dine there.  We were told that the Cafe has the same cold food options as the Pub and it also offers hot food.  The Cafe is accessible from outside the tour, so admission to the library isn't necessary for dining.  The third option would be to bring your own lunch.  To see the above options follow this Dining Options link.

It was a lovely day and we all had a wonderful time exploring and learning some of our nation's political past.

A few quotes I really liked:

We have come a long way .... an yet still so far to go.... :)

Our next adventures take us to a hiking and out to lunch, a water park, another presidential library, and to visit a very special mouse.

Enjoy your day!
